Hi all, I’d like to share my experience with two problems appeared today after upgrade to version 8.16 …
BUG 1 - program CRASHES
When I make a local adjustment with circular control points (which are still the best for me in the vast majority of cases), the moment I add a NEGATIVE one (click with the ALT key held down) to the mask, Photolab crashes (bug reporting window appears). It happens all the times I try to insert a negative point in a Control Points local adjustment, it’s systematic.
BUG 2 - Unexpected behavior
Again using the circular control points adjustment: I have a local adjustment where I add more than one point, but when I change the first parameter (exposure/tone/ecc… whatever you want) ALL the control points in that local adjustment – except the first one placed – simply become invisible. They don’t cease to exist, they still do their job, they simply become invisible in the image, thus I can’t move them or increase/decrease their radius of their action. It is a bug because all the placed points in a single “control point local adjustment” should always remain visible to change position/radius to any of them: the only way to have them back visible again is to check the “show masks” flag, but this is not normal (if I don’t want to see the fixed red halos I want to be able to remove them), and before it didn’t behave like this.
EDIT: I just discovered that the two bugs are related. If i check the “Show masks” flag, then I will also be able to add NEGATIVE control points to a “control point” local adjustment; if I un-check that flag and then try to add a negative control point, boom, PL8 crashes…
This forum is great for sharing experiences like yours and learning more from the user community. However, it isn’t actually a means for reporting bugs to DxO. While some bug reports can be picked up by DxO here and fixed without user interaction, they will want to ask you a lot of questions about this particular issue before determining how to fix it. So it’s important to also report bugs via support.dxo.com. Hopefully they won’t make you work too hard to describe the problem - but you can always say enough is enough if that happens and leave them to work it out.
Hi Egregius, I needed to share my findings with other PL8 users, that’s the intended scope of a forum: plus, I had to double check if I was the only one experiencing these problems, since PL8 is 2 yo now and it should be a very stable product; as you can see, I already found Wolfgang here above having the same crashes.
Anyway, as already stated above, DxO is perfectly aware of my issue, since I reported the crash using the PL8 “send report” interface that pops out at crash time.
And given that the bugs are obviously related, I hope they’ll get to a fix of both soon. It’s kind of annoying when you have to check-the-flag then uncheck-the-flag to add a negative control point, and then check again to drag/change radius to some points, and then again uncheck it back to see the effect of the mask… it’s not an ideal workflow, I think anyone could agree with that.
Did you open a case about the issue, too? If not, please proceed: bug reports grow in importance and gain attention if more users report the same issue.
If the problem persists even after an uninstall-reinstall cycle of PL8, I’ll think about a DDU and full reinstall of GPU drivers, it could be worth the try anyway.
