I just noticed some unexpected behavior from local adjustments. I was editing a sequence of similar photos and copied the local adjustments from frame 1 into the other frames but removed the cropping I chose. I went ahead and finished the first round of editing all the frames, including moving some local adjustments based on location changes in the frames.
When I went back to review the first frame, I decided that there was a distracting bright area in the background and added a new local adjustment (group of control points) to tone down the brightness. I moved on to the next frame for few review and saw that this new set of control points had automatically been copied into all subsequent frames.
Is that normal? Does copying local adjustments remain live so that any new adjustments are automatically copied from the original source even if the new adjustments are added after the initial copying operation?
I’m going to guess that you had the subsequent frames still selected.
I’ve done this before and PL doesn’t necessarily make it crystal clear what you have selected, so it’s easy to keep editing and forget you’re actually editing e.g. 5 photos at once.
If you haven’t done much editing since you noticed the problem, you might be able to recover the edits you wanted in each photo by selecting them individually and rolling back their edits in “history”. Depends how much editing you’ve done since / and how many history states you’re set up to save, though.
I think you are right. I had recently selected all the files for exporting and it is quite possible that the first frame was still displayed while the other frames were highlighted. I can appreciate the power of allowing simultaneous editing of multiple pictures but it would be helpful for many people if there was a warning when the first change was made that it would affect multiple pictures.
Yeah I agree, a warning prompt for batch editing would be useful.
That and a way to make “multiple images selected” more prominent. A bright background colour under the selected images perhaps.
