So, in ColorRenderingDCPProfile key in DOP path to color profile file is set as full path. When pictures are moved to another location, calibration is gone and must to select DCP again. Because PL is saving new profile next to RAW and DOP, path to it should be relative, not full, and it will work regardless of the location in file system. Please fix it if you could!
DCP and LUT data could be integrated in the .dop sidecar files. They’d get bigger for sure, but they could transport the otherwise lost sources of data.
On my Mac, I find DCP profiles with between 100 Bytes and 973 KB each and LUTs ranging from 132KB to 7.1 MB. Embedding the data is the only way to keep images and profiles together, as long as the sidecars don’t get lost.
Nevertheless, it would be a smart move if DxO provided standard folders into which the necessary files would go. We have such folders for modules, presets etc., so why not add folders for DCP and LUT files?
Yes, obviously. But sometimes I wonder how PhotoLab supports its own features - anything from YAY! to GRMBL!
Which doesn’t help unless the path is identical on the computers you move between.
Dop has been broken as a method of interchange when using profiles since the support was added in PL2, but DxO refuses to address it, and still makes misleading statements like this in the User Guide:
These settings files enable the transfer of all of the correction settings of an image from one computer to another or the sharing of them with other users.
They conveniently don’t mention that the user will have to either ensure that the absolute path to referenced profiles is the same on both computers or edit the dop files.
Absolutely. As we discussed in another thread, this would be a minimal solution that would at least let people move dop files between users/computers without needing to edit the paths of referenced profiles, but after 7 major releases of ignoring the problem, my hopes aren’t high. DxO seems to pride itself on ignoring even the lowest hanging fruit.
