I have trying to get these to where I like them for a year. I think I am heading in a good direction.

I like the first one, it probably works well in colour too.
The second one look as if it’s had too much microcontrast applied to it, i.e. the clouds look a bit ‘crunchy’. For my taste anyway.

Regardless of micro contrast, you could play a little with the tone curve. The “Low Contrast (RGB)” preset pulls back the curtain a little.

The sun is behind the clouds and there was no color. Usually sun rise photos from this location are dramatic.
