Well, it was there 
It’s part of the composition. The red filter makes the sky dark and so accentuates the moon.

Perhaps it’s a distraction in this photo but planet Earth would be in serious trouble if it didn’t have the Moon:
To me the moon isn’t a distraction but an element.
I believe it’s a daylight image.
