I installed all my DxO programs without trouble. Next I ran into trouble installing another program and did a number of things to fix that, but nothing worked. Then I decided to roll the PC back to a previous restore point in order to clean out everything extra that might have been installed.
In that process my DxO programs were lost. They do not figure as installed programs any longer in any of the program lists. But apparently all the installed files are not touched. So as I now tried reinstalling PhotoLab 7 to its normal destination I get the message: âInstallation directory must be empty and located on your local hard drive.â
Can you tell me how I should do in order to be able to reinstall my DxO programs (incl. NIK suite) at their normal destination? Maybe there is some tool that can delete all the previously installed files incl. registry entries, so I can start a fresh installation?
Please welcome to the forum.
You may try to clean manually the directories listed at the bottom of this link: Menus, Preferences and Functions â PhotoLab
(PC subsection of âLocation of various componentsâ).
If that doesnât work, contact DxO support â this is users forum with very seldom DxO input. Maybe wait for a while for a response from someone who had a similar problem.
Thank you for your suggestion. I donât think it will be enough to cleanup these folders. The registry entries will be left back, and for some reason the main installation folder is not mentioned. And then there are the other DxO programs as well.
I did reach out for support from DxO, but as I got no quick answer, I tried in this forum.
Sadly Windows does not list any of the programs as installed, that also goes for NIK Collection.
But in your link there is a link to âWindows Install and Uninstall troubleshooterâ. I shall try examining that closer. Thank you.
I was just shooting in the dark. I would examine the scripts before running them, especially if registry changes are involved. I wouldnât be 100% sure that old recipes apply to current versions. Sorry to possibly confuse you, I should have kept quiet.
Could it be that whatever problem you were having with software installation also interfered with a successful rollback to a previous restore point? Is your C: drive nearly full, perhaps? Or perhaps there is a problem with security software or a virus? Just guessing, none of this might be relevant to your case. But your PC seems to be in a jumbled up state, and now youâre trying to clean it up.
I suggest running the chkdsk, sfc, and dism commands as an administrator. For more info on the latter two, see this article:
Then, reboot and try reinstalling the DxO software again and do further troubleshooting as needed. I hope this helps.
Thank you for various suggestions. The registry has never been the problem.
After a while I got response from support, and we are in a dialogue that I believe will end in that I get the problem fixed. I just need to be very patient, as support takes time answering.
