Cannot edit from Lightroom

I cannot seem to export an image from Lightroom to DxO Photolab for editing. In Lightroom I click File>Edit in>DxOPhotoLab9, I get a popup box saying “Opening in DxOPhotoLab9,” I click the Open in DxOPhotoLab9 button, DxO opens, yet I my image does not appear in DxO. Does anyone know how to get the image to appear in DxO? (I am using Lightroom, not Lightroom Classic.)

What type of file are you trying to export from LR to PL 9? What edits and processing were applied to that file in Lightroom before attempting to export it to PhotoLab? What were you planning to do with that image file in PhotoLab?

It is an RAF file, which Lightroom usually converts to a TIFF before sending it to the external software program. In Lightroom I had done some standard lighting tweaks, changed the profile and added one layer to work on the sky separately. The plan was to do further color work in Photolab.

@kinnear3 Lightroom CC, does not support plugins, so there is unfortunately no way to open a raw file in PL9, directly from the application.

Lightroom CC does have an Edit in command, which sends a TIFF to an external editor. The Edit in command opens PhotoLab, the TIFF file just never shows up there. Lightroom even provides a popup with instructions about how to ensure that the edited file comes back from Photolab and lands in the Lightroom library.

@kinnear3 I have just tried to send a raw file from Lightroom CC to PL9, but found it could not be done. I then created a TIFF from the raw file, and got it to open in PL9.

Unfortunately, when I tried to export the image back to Lightroom CC as jpeg, the export appeared to fail.

The issues I am experiencing may well be down to user error, as I have only ever given Lightroom CC a cursory look. I don’t know what your workflow is, but to me Lightroom Classic is the best application as it has a PhotoLab plugin.

I don’t use Lightroom but I’m curious if the problem is the layered tiff file. Does Lightroom flatten it to a single layer before attempting to open in Photolab?
