Can you duplicate mask without the settings?

I’m just trying to learn better masking techniques and am wondering if there is a way of duplicating a mask without the settings ?

Just create a new mask of the same type ?

If I create a complex mask of a bird/animal I’d like to be able to duplicate that mask and then invert the mask to create a mask for the background.
I guess I’ll have to dupicate the mask before I do any edits.

I just wondered if there was a way of duplicating the mask without the settings.

Simply duplicate your mask and invert it, then reset/adjust your “background” settings.

It depends on the mask type whether you are successful without adjusting the “duplicated” mask itself. An easy example would be a “painted” mask. … You need to try this yourself.

.

a tip for advanced techniques

When you have produced a mask e.g. with a control line / with control points and excluded parts of it with negative masks to trim your selection
and you duplicate that “mask construction” to then revert the selection
you may notice that you cannot access some settings.
.
To solve the ‘problem’ put the duplicated mask back to normal, adjust your settings and then revert again … Just keep this in mind for later.

Thanks Wolfgang.
That is what I have been doing…no big deal it’s just remembering to duplicate the mask before adjusting any settings, it just slows down the workflow having to reset all the settings.

I’m finding you can get good results using PL but after using C1 it takes more time to get there.
