Can you create a preset which does not eliminate other settings?

I wanted to create a preset which I can apply to an image which does not reset all the other settings. Specifically:

  1. On one image, I manually cancelled all settings. I then set unsharp mask to some value. I then clicked ‘create preset from current settings’.

  2. On another image I applied the ‘no correction’ preset. I checked - all the settings were unticked. I then applied a tone curve adjustment. And again selected ‘create preset from current settings’.

Then I worked on another image. I simply added Clear view. Then I applied the preset I created in 1) above. I thought it would add the unsharp mask. It did; but is also unset the Clear View. This also happens with 2). (I.e. it doesn’t make any different how I unset all settings except the target one).

I don’t want it to unset any other setting. I just want it to apply (or overwrite) the targeted setting.

Is this possible? How?

I’m not at home, I think you have to edit your preset and disable the parameters you do not want to modify.

You can do that. It’s called a partial preset which can be created to modify specific settings while leaving everything else untouched. Unfortunately I’m away from home and responding from my phone so I can’t go into the specifics of how create one right now. Perhaps in the interim, before I get home, someone else will chime in with the details.

To create a partial preset, edit a newly created or existing preset. In the edit mode you’ll be able to select which tools/settings to be applied. Each setting has two places to check to activate the setting, one is a checkbox next to the setting title and one is a checkbox in a vertical bar to the left of the setting. You’ll want to make sure the checkbox in the vertical bar on the left is checked only for the settings you want to be applied; that checkbox should be unchecked for settings in the photo you wish to remain unchanged by the partial preset.

Nice explanation. Also - this seems a nice way of creating new presets.
