I often underexpose in order to protect highlights. That means that the shadows are too dark to properly evaluate the effect of denoising. Is there a way to preview what the effect will be, eg by boosting the exposure temporarily? (I’m just trying out the software just now, so maybe I missed something obvious!)
Typically, PureRAW is used as a precursor to further editing in LR or PS, etc - - for those who don’t use PhotoLab.
If that’s not your case then you’d be better of with PhotoLab (instead of PureRAW) as that gives you all the tools for processing and editing your RAW files - - including the evaluation step you’ve described.
Thanks for the replies. I want to use PR as a basis for editing in PS, and the new “smart object” workflow is a help in that direction (despite some bugs …).
I found a sort of workaround - by setting the output format to JPEG you can then choose “smart lighting” which boosts the exposure a bit, and then select your denoise parameters before switching to your actual preferred output format DNG or Smart Object in my case. It’s not perfect but it helps!!
