I have reported to DxO support the following malfunction in Nik Collection 7 Silver Efex:
History panel does not permit to select the original image as reference image for comparison. Even more, sometimes history panel does not permit to select any history’s point at all as reference image. So, in that case, the reference image always will be the neutral image from the list of previews thumbnail’s filters.
while I still use Nik 6, I checked with SEP … it might be the same as in Nik7.
In the history I can go back to the INITIAL STATE, which in my case was “000 Neutral”. This is the first entry ( where I started in this filter ).
When I move the yellow slider up to the Original Image nothing happens … until I press & hold one of the compare buttons, which me allows then to temporarily see the color version.
Unfortunately, I can’t move the yellow slider up to the Original Image, even in case one of the compare buttons has been pressed before.
What I do not understand is how you can press & hold one of the compare buttons and at the same time move the yellow slider. If a compare button is pressed & held nothing more can be do it with the mouse.
As said, I checked in Nik6 SEP … where in the history I can move that yellow slider with the mouse and then click on any of the Compare buttons.
the first entry in the history after Nik SEP start
.
slider manually moved up to the Original Image state
.
ThenI had a look at the recent online help (Nik 7), activated the Compare side-by-side button first, set the yellow slider to another ‘reference point’ ( → 029 Cool Tones 2 )
and could compare the new reference (left side) with the yellowish highlighted entry (right side).
.
You need to play around a bit and you will understand.
(provided there is no bug in Nik 7 …)
What you said works perfectly in my Nik Collection 5.9 Silver Efex, as it always did, and even it does in my new Nik Collection 7 Silver Efex if it is working standalone, but if I use Silver Efex 7 as a plugin in Photoshop it is not possible select the Original Image as reference to compare.
It would be very useful if someone with Nik Collection 7 running as a plugin in Photoshop could test either he has the same problem than I or things run well as they were designed.
Of course, I can use PS for comparison and thousands of different things, however I like and I demand that software works as it’s designed, without bugs.
I hope DxO solve that issue.
