I apologize if this is a novice question, but I recently moved DxO PL (version 5 Elite) to a new M3 MacBook Air running Sequoia OS 15.2, after inactivating it on a previous Mac. It runs as before except when I try to do local corrections, in which case the “Preview Corrections” icon appears and spins forever. To escape, I have to force quit and restart. This used to happen intermittently, but now recurs each time I apply local corrections. I was hoping there was a simple fix, like trashing a preference file. Thanks for any suggestions.
Hello there.
Unfortunately PL5 is not supported on sequoia.
Here’s a list of compatibility.
Thanks; I appreciate the pointer. Though I’m not keen to upgrade when v5 has otherwise been working well for me (I guess I’m a bit long of tooth )
Understandable.
There’s something else you need to factor in when considering whether or not to upgrade. As a user of PL5, DxO will not consider you to be a ‘current user’. Only users of the two previous versions (so PL6 & PL7 at the moment) are ‘current users’. This means the only discounts available to you are those DxO offers to new users.
That in turn means were you to upgrade right now you will have to pay full price for PL8. No one here no one knows if DxO will, or will not, offer PL8 at a discount at some time in the future. Nor will DxO reveal their marketing strategy in advance.
Meanwhile, it’s a safe bet that when PL9 is released (expected autumn 2025) it will be launched at a discount. It’s also a reasonably safe bet PL9 will also be available at a discount over the Black Friday period at the end of November 2025.
You pays your money and you takes your choice.
Thanks for that info. The lack of an upgrade path from versions 5 to 8 was another reason for avoiding the transition. But it’s mostly because I didn’t want to learn a new interface when the current one serves my needs. For anyone thinking of upgrading their Mac OS, this problem was intermittent with Sequoia 15.1, but it took a turn for the worse with the recent upgrade to Sequoia 15.2, where it became unusable.
I don’t remember there being a huge change in the interface when I went from PL5 to PL7.
There was though the switch from what DxO now call their Legacy working colour space to their Wide Gamut working colour space. For me that was a massive improvement. At last PL could render the colours in my Canon 90D .CR3 files without the greens looking yellow and skin tones looking a bit jaundiced.
The major UI difference was with the LA user-interface … PLv5 used the “old LA Gizmo” … PLv7 uses the new LA palette/panel UI.
Thanks. That’s good to know. I should have asked, before assuming I would have to contend with the usual annoyances that follow upgrades. I would be curious whether anyone is bothered by differences between versions 8 and 5 differences, as I expect there have been a few over time.
You can compare the versions in the DXO site

@AKS see @John-M’s reply to me, there was a significant interface change. Local Adjustments are now all controlled from a palette, they are no longer adjusted via the ‘equaliser’. No, it’s not possible to restore the ‘equaliser’.
Thanks. I quite like the “equalizer”, especially the way you can toggle the display via Shift E to reduce screen clutter. But I downloaded the 30-day trial of version 8, and I’m sure I can cope :). I was glad to find myself still eligible for the version 8 trial despite installing the version 5 trial some years ago. While I always like to try before buying, I probably have no choice, as version 5 really is unusable now. Thanks everyone for the guidance.
I guess I am lucky, I am on Sequoia 15.3.1 with PL5.16.0 and have not experienced any problem yet, also not in local adjustments. Am having a M2.
I’m jealous, as I really was quite happy with version 5. Now I’m wondering if I should upgrade to Sequoia 15.3.1 and hope that the issue resolves
