There are already many feature requests for this, particularly pertaining to control points. Just search the forum for the word elliptical. Is your request different?
Yes, my request is a little different. I’m not looking for another “intelligent” selection tool like Control Points.
What I’d like is simply a basic elliptical/radial mask, similar to Lightroom’s Radial Gradient: an ellipse with a smooth feathered transition, where I can adjust the size, shape, feathering and position, and then apply the usual local adjustments.
Basically, something simple and predictable, without any automatic selection based on color, texture, etc. Sometimes I just want a simple radial gradient.
Search the forum for radial. What you’re asking for has also been requested many times over eight years. It’s a very popular request, and might even already be in DxO’s backlog for implementation:

You can make a Control Point into a simple radial mask by reducing the Chroma and Luma sliders to zero. If they ever add an elliptical Control Point, you can use this to get what you want.

…but not if their strategy is to make people spend more on DxO products by ‘requiring’ PL users to buy NIK in order to get this feature. Much like you need to spend money to unlock FilmPack in order to get luminosity masking in PL.
I feel your pain about needing to pay extra for luminosity masks. But having it in NIK vs FilmPack is very different. Paying for NIK won’t add elliptical control points back into Photolab. You have to convert your RAW to a bitmap (TIFF/JPG) to use NIK.
I realise that but my point is by not putting it into PL, DxO are forcing you to spend more money with them to get the feature. Assuming of course you can’t live without the feature. I can live without the feature.
I don’t think DxO is excluding it from PS to expand NIK sales since
NIK targets, and is optimized for Adobe users. Perhaps having an elliptical mask that is similar to Adobe tools makes business sense for this market.
Since DxO prides themselves on not following Adobe, perhaps it is more of a conscious decision. This leaves users, such as me, going to alternate software for the desired tools. I certainly user other software for this tool, not NIK specifically. Sadly, DxO PL is not a “Complete” photo solution as advertised.

Again, as things stand today, you can create a (circular) vignette by adding a Control Point, setting Chroma and Luma to zero, then inverting and lowering exposure. Once again, if/when elliptical Control Points arrive, this will do for a frame-referenced vignette.

DxO just makes you pay more to access it, because screw the customers.
Much like other functions that are available to everyone in other software like colour grading and lumo-masking.
(And yes, leaving elliptical masks out of PhotoLab - whether it’s not considered a priority despite user feedback or a conscious decision to be different - is a mis-step on DxO’s front too. Their value has been shown again and again in other products.)
Not the same. You can’t tweak the feather zone of CP in PL (unless v9 allows that ?).
Lenght of feather zone; curve of blending from 100 to 0 for this zone and even vectors to change the lenght of if around the mask perimeter are parameters that exist in other softwares for this kind of mask you can’t get with control points.
About control points, it would be great to be able to move the pipette anywhere on the image (like control lines) and not get it stuck in the center of the selection.
