I use an OM1 mk2 and am keen to understand if I should apply RAW4 to all the RAW images from a shoot, even ISO 200 or 400 or even 800? Or should I just use it to adjust say those with a high ISO?
If the latter, is there any way to filter higher ISO ones in RAW4 and apply more RAW4 adjustments for ISO 4800 images and less for say ISO 1000 images? Or is this a wishlist feature?
The noise reduction features of PureRaw are not applied like other noise reduction systems. It is AI based and intended for use on all images regardless of ISO. It analyzes your entire image and applies its algorithms only in those areas that need it.
Too many users assume DxO’s NR tools are similar to the tools of other software offerings. They are not. They don’t realize that DxO’s DeepPRIME variants are an essential part of both PureRaw and PhotoLab’s raw file demosaicing. Some users report the generation of artifacts with some images from some cameras processed with DeepPRIME XD2S, although I have not had that problem. For those occasional cases, use DeepPRIME instead.
Many of us who are very familiar with DxO’s products use one of the DeepPRIME variants on virtually every picture we process.
Try it yourself. You are the final arbiter of what looks good to you.
Note: Only DeepPRIME and DeepPRIME XD/XD2S are AI based and use your graphic card’s GPU to accelerate processing. The older PRIME tool mostly continues to exist for those users who do not have a graphics card capable of accelerating the processing of the DeepPRIME variants.
Mark’s response is the definitive answer to your question … but - yes - you can ISOlate images according to their ISO rating - just not using a filter … Instead, Sort your images by ISO rating.
Thank you, Mark, for your comprehensive answer and explanation. It’s a mind shift for me
I guess then is there a way to say dial down Lens Softens compensation to Standard vs Strong or dial down advanced settings of Luminosity and Sharpness on all imported RAWS rather than having to do it individually? I would have thought selecting all images and then changing a variable would do it to all, but it doesn’t? Or don’t worry about it as “applies its algorithms only in those areas that need it” and assume to the degree it needs?
I have a pretty high specced desktop and so use DeepPRIME XD/XD2S
The lens softness compensation tool is separate from the DeepPRIME variants and is not AI based. It is continuously adjustable in PhotoLab with a slider but I believe that in PureRaw 4 there are only four selectable settings. Adjust it to your preferred value or turn it off.
