2025 Black Friday Sale - Now Live

Wow! You still use that lens? I would LOVE to see how it performs on a modern full frame DSLR, it was legendary (and too expensive for my young pockets) at the time!

As a working photographer, I generally upgrade all applications, particularly when either there are important new/improved functionality or there are software defect (“bug”) or security updates needed. I agree with much of the commentary here –- DxO how-tos from experienced specialists (typically for fee in the "community” on the Web) are far less available than those for Adobe LR/PS . However, the semi-automatic outputs with my personal presets produce overall results as good or better than the Adobe suite – although I miss plugins (evidently the architecture of PL does not allow plugins, but requires an external export/import as a TIFF and thus raw is not available). Eventually, one hopes that DxO will “fix” the various AI semi-automatic masks that are a major change in PL9 Elite complete.

here you go, bad light, missing DXO module.. I have more but I can only upload 1 picture. Taken last week. D850. oh dear that is very compressed..

Grrr. Forum Editor zapped my link

please click on the 3 dots top right to zoom in

Definitely “old school” Nikon delicate colours, very different than modern lenses!

Thee does not appear to be any discount for PL upgrades. At least I did not see any pricing discount for the upgrade when I checked.

If you have PL7 or PL8 you should see a discounted price if you login to your DxO shop account.

DxO is treating existing customers very badly.
Best example is for DxO Film Pack.
You can upgrade only from previous version (7). For version 6 and older upgrade price is standard BF price ÂŁ109.99, however any new customer can do quick google paste discount code and can buy FilmPack for ÂŁ104.49.
and you cannot be sure that stuff you buying not disappear after update (digital FujiFilm example)

All true. There’s very little incentive to be loyal, outside of individual investment in their software (and) its potential potency.

As a business they’re getting increasingly awful at communication, customer care, software support…

bug fixing, improvements, radiculus differences between Mac and windows versions, ….

Yes. I see a $20 swings now.

Wallets do the talking. Since FilmPack 8 was just released, I can understand why it’s not discounted more. Analog film simulation is not my main focus when delivering. I usually incorporate a few film-look accents into a photo batch, but not for the entire delivered album. Thus, the 50% sale price doesn’t suit my current financial disposition. I’ll just wait until the price drops next year, as I have equally good, if not better, alternatives.

AI did the talking :man_facepalming:
and completely missed the point

I was on PL 8 and about to skip the upgrade. I skipped PL7 before, and there was too much chatter about bugs and performance issues. I had my eyes on a FP8 upgrade coming from FP6. The only reason (really nothing else) to upgrade is the luminosity mask feature. It’s a crime that this is tied to a film simulation add on. Long story short, I gave PL9 a try and found it working perfectly fine on my Mac. I only tried the latest version from a few days ago, so I don’t know how bad previous bugs were.

I ended up buying the PL9 upgrade and FP8 at a small discount. It’s good software but DxO doesn’t do $hit to like them as a company. Communication is terrible, price gauging is beyond reasonable.

What are the differences between Mac and Windows versions?

There are a couple of dozen differences split between the user interface and feature functionality. I believe someone compiled a list.
