That old computer from a decade ago will not run AI-driven softwares such as PL 9. Corporations are re-commissioning mothballed nuclear power plants to feed the AI beast. It demands power.
Best Buy had a M2 MacBook Air for $600 on Black Friday that would run rings around your old MBP. Only 16gb RAM but it will still get the job done.
PhotoLab 8 and 9 are extremely greedy in terms of resources. I’m not sure about PhotoLab 7. PhotoLab 6 would run very well on your hardware. You basically miss out on the latest DeepPrime noise reduction. You get early DeepPrime which is excellent. Even Prime is very good. DeepPrime XD is to be avoided as it manufactures detail and texture which isn’t there. You wouldn’t believe what DeepPrime XD does to faces at medium distance (huge black marks on them, artifacts). Many of the masking features are only in newer versions. But all of them have the wonderful U-point technology to which we’ve all become too indifferent.
What cameras do you have? The main issue is whether the verson of PhotoLab which will run well on your computer supports your camera. You can always upgrade to a more recent version when you update your computer.
But if this person has never had PhotoLab before, is there even any way to get an earlier version of it? I don’t think there is…? Unless I am mistaken.
I’m m currently borrowing a friends Nikon D3200. before I buy anything, im not fussed about AI things lol, id like to learn. dont fancy splashing out on a new macbook just to edit photos either at the moment lol.
thanks for your reply, i suppose the answer is as deejay2828 suggested, try the free trial and see.
I believe the free trial will still run. That’s the first step. If it does, Jordan could either insist on a license for older version and current version from DxO, or ask someone on this forum nicely for some help.
