Several years after discovering digital photography, I am finally pushing the limits on what my cameras can accomplish. Till now, I’ve worked really hard to get the camera to do all the work, so that I am not the guy that creates mediocre photos and uses photoshop to make grand photos. In other words, I want to have jpg’s out of camera that are usable as-is. I’ve had some success in this, but after doing two things: 1) Milky Way astrophotography in Big Bend National Park and 2) shooting moving hummingbirds at 300mm with mid-range cameras and lenses (because budget is an issue) I am learning how to post-process with consciousness of preserving the integrity of the photo. To that end, I have finally purchased software to help process RAW images beyond what the camera maker’s software does. And here I am.
