How do I enable XMP sidecar generation on PL8 for macOS?

I have the ‘Synchronise metadata with XMP sidecar files’ preference enabled. I can add keywords, star ratings etc, and these are written to the .dop file. But no XMP files appear to be generated.

In PL7, with the same settings the XMP file is generated as soon as some metadata is added.

Am I missing something, or is this a PL8 bug?

No such issue on my Mac. XMP sidecars are created almost instantly in both DPL7 and DPL8. Consequentially, I have some questions concerning your configuration.

  • Are you looking in the right folder?
    • (sounds obvious, but I’ve had such lapses)
  • How many files are you dealing with in the selected folder?
    • (DPL might take some time to prepare for writing)
  • Where are those files and do you actually have the necessary access rights?
    • (shared folder or volume, NAS etc.)
  • Is there any app that might possibly “terrorise” the images?
    • (haven’t seen this on my Macs, but better quit all other apps and re-test)
  • When did you last restart DPL or your Mac?

I have both PL7 and 8 installed, and on the same file PL7 generates the XMP, but PL8 not. Quitting and restarting PL8 does not help, nor does deleting the database.

There are only a few dozen images in the folder I was looking at. They are all local on the internal SSD,

What I am not sure of is whether or not there are any other preference settings that might be affecting PL8 (PL7 keeps all of its settings separate). I probably should look at the plist settings files :frowning:
