True, i hope most of my requestlist is done in v4.x.
We don’t know the roadmap so that’s reserved for the dxo staff.
Some backlog items are overrun by new requests or circumstances.
I find it interesting to know what people absolute want to have in v5 and if posible in v4.x.
See if there are comparison’s and feature’s who are in everyone’s mind.
I support this and want to add the possibility to enter specific values. I know exactly which values I want to have for example as micro contrast, fine contrast, shadows and so on. It’s difficult and unnecessary work to do that with the mouse pointer.

I think many of my wants have been mentioned already…
keywords in xml files
combining crop and horizon tool so we can eyeball a horizon… as well as keeping the facility to draw the line across.
I would add…
3. improving the filter functionality is really high priority for me. Specifically at the moment I’d like to filter so I only have the virtual copies. I can’t see a way of doing that other than assigning them a certain star value or picking them. Is there a better way that I am missing?
the ability to tag colours onto images - this adds so much flexibility for sorting images.
At the moment I am exporting to Affinity Photo to softproof and then print. It would be nice to be able to softproof in Photolab, but I suspect this is a big ask and I may be in the minority.
@zkarj there is a graduated filter in local adjustments - does that not work for you? That is what I use rather than control points.
Edit: I have just clicked your link @zkarj and I understand now - you wish to change the colour of the sky.
Owh and virtualcopy _ my text.rw2 function.
I would like to name in a suffix my VC’s if i have more then one. Or label with text.
Small but usefull addon.
Peter. See my post here where I show it is possible to show a different name, at least for the master. AS I say elsewhere in that discussion, surely this could be leveraged to allow renaming of VCs?
they already have a unique name namely VC1 VC2 VC3
This popup label when hoovering over the number could be also a be user typed text.
say 1: B&W or 1: phase 2 or 1: trail 2 and by clicking on the number you get a field to type a few characters only showing in hoovering or when used ctrl+i.
This label can be stored in the dopfile.
Dear Santa Claus, i have been very wise and kind. I would like for next Xmas, or before, a new rev for dxolab with those improvements :
possibility to use all the functionalities, including those of filmpack, in local adjustments
possibility to make masks based of luminosity and range of colors
better keywords management especially hierarchical keyworks working properly, xml files compatibles with other softwares
better tablet compatible interface
better speed performances
easy tones correction (yes i know i can make it with curves, but so simple with wheels)
image comparison
because you can offer more than a derawtiser (clone stamp is a good example) : focus stacking for landscapes (not hundreds of pics as for macro, but 3 to 5 for instance), it would simplify my workflow, and we don’t have it in nik collection
curve picking tool allowing to modify easily the selected zone
Thank you Santa
The following list will determine if I will update to PhotoLab5. Strong words like “revolution” will not impress me:
Color balance tool that allows you to adjust the RGB channels of the image. The white balance tool is extremely inconvenient for precise color balance of large groups of images. I am currently forced to use the Tone Curve tool for this purpose, tuning the individual RGB channels. When you do this with over 1000 images, the loss of time is measured in hours. Adding an auto-correction option with artificial intelligence would be highly appreciated.
At the moment, when I work with a PhotoLab, I waste the most time adjusting the white balance, that’s why this point has a high weight in my criteria.
In the following topic, which I initiated more than a year ago, I have detailed the problem: Request: Color balance
Correct export to sRGB color space with attachment of the color profile is a cause with which I have been engaged for more than a year. Enhanced ICC settings for export to sRGB
Those vc names(vc1 vc 2 etc.) are writen in the dopfile so there are already “headers” with adjustments so it would not be that difficult to attach a textfield to that section right?
Lots of love for the idea of combining crop and rotate/horizon, but I would elevate the above point over that. If I had a dollar for every time I’ve had to re-enter crop mode to get rid of black corner!
Thanks for the initiative. I want a competent IPEG Denoise function.
I like to propose a denoising for jpeg files comparable with prime/deep prime or Topaz AI. PL HQ is simply not good enough, and Dfine not much better. One reason for this request is, that Deep Prime has improved RAW develoment for older MFT cameras significantly and led many users including myself to reprocess the old RAW files. However, 15 years ago data storage was still expensive, and I have deleted many RAW files in favor of the JPEG files. I would prefer not to have to use TOPAZ Denoise AI for these files rather than integrate this feature into PL. This would be certainly worth the expense for upgrading.
Personnaly I think it’s premature to talk about a major update (5.X) when I’ve just paid for Photolab 4.0. I’m hoping i’ll get at least 12-18months before having to pay more.
Yes also true,
What i ment to do is trying to see what we missing out on and see if we can get a list of importancy which needs to be adressed, in v4 updates and otherwise at least in v5.0 not later.
And in the months comming people can see this as a summary thread.
I like to see tonecurve and histogram in one viewing window and see contrast sliders interact with the tonecurve line but this is not important enough to “demand” this in the next version.
And a luminance-layer select tool. ( first step would be a visual mask of the selective tone sliders, then a manual selective luminance range mask.)
So the first step i find important for progress.
I find it quite effective, Bob. I suggest starting with the following settings (to make the affect clear);
– Intensity = -100
– Midpoint, Transition & Roundness all = 50
… and then refine from there.
It’s not an ideal solution, Barb - but, you can sort by VC … so, at least, they’re all grouped together.
