Wasn't Photolab 8 a pretty good upgrade?

Yep, there seem to be quite a few at the Imatch-forums that also use Photolab. The integration works fine between iMatch and Photolab and it was one of the things I tested quite a lot because poor integration would be a showstopper if I decide to migrate from PhotoMechanic in some future but I will stick to PM Plus as long as I can because for me PM is a far more effective solution still as I use it.

I will test if they have been able to lift the auto texting and auto keywording in the coming version 2025 but the 2023 version was a big disappointment when it came to that. If I compare the poor AI in that version with fÜr example Google Lens it was almost a joke. I wasn´t able to hook up to any other AI source because they demanded login codes but they might work better than the built in tools. As I understand the developer (Mario?) didn´t have the economic resources to train his AI.

When I use Google Lens, I like many others do participate in training Googles AI. So I find it really impressive and effective because it gets a massive support with verifying the suggestions it gives us. It is very much a win-win whether I use it to recognize places, buildings or architecture I have since long forgotten where I took. It is really helpful when I write Subject- or Description-metadata texts.

It also is very helpful when I want to verify flowers, mushrooms or exotic fishes or whatever.

What really made me impressed was the Google Lens Translation-module that helped me even read more than 2000 years old bible scrolls from the Qumran Caves.

Here an israeli reading the 2000 years old texts in the Shrine of Books in Israeli Museum.

Now even I can do that using Google Lens

According to Google Lens the translation to English from Hebrew reads:

“And after Moses was a servant of Yaweh Jehova said in the days whwn Moses was serving sayíng:”

I think that is pretty amazing, don´t you?
Often one also get impressed by how well preserved some of these texts really are and how distinct these old writers wrote the hebrew letters in those scrolls. It is handwriting we talk about that is 2000 years. Sometime I have problems even getting my scanner programs OCR-module to understand texts that are written by type writers
