Valued Customer? DXO says Pay Up!

Damn, this sucks alot.

I was an adopter as Dx0 was starting to take root, my first version was photolab4, got a free upgrade to ver 5.

Later on, when ver8 got released, they had removed the upgrade discount which was previously available.

Now that I’ve had to buy a full price version of ver 8, less than a year ago, I need to pay again to upgrade to ver9. Where most other software promise an upgrade license for a year atleast.

This stinks that Dx0 are starting to pull the same stunt as Luminar where you buy once, get no upgrade, only for any upgrades that requires a costly purchase. At least luminar is cheap, does Dx0 expect all of us to be rockstar photographers paid through the tooth?

I really don’t like the cloak and dagger approch they’ve taken when upgrades were previously given. Now it’s hidden behind some limited time off.

They’re starting to remove their unique selling points, which got them on the map in comparison to photoshop. I think Dx0 is starting to get abit too big for their breeches. Time for me to start looking elsewhere.

Me neither … that’s why I pointed out accepting the newsletter.
There are still people who don’t know.

There are difference licens models and the one DxO have chosen is one there you are given 30 days to try and test the most complete software bundle in an unrestricted way.
We can then chose to purchase it and it will be ours forever - or we can uninstall it and reflect on the need further down the road. Or let it be and simply don’t use it.
We are not forced to buy it. I’m not and neither are you.
We are not forced to purchase it today either. We can wait a month or five months even and see if the need have changed or any showstoppers have been fixed and new features released.

The version 7 is today more powerful than it was when it first saw its light and it will still be as powerful for years to come. And unless you really need a feature or hardware support from version 8 or 9, the 7 will be a pretty good one.

Same with version 8 - it’s better now than it was at release date, as will the new v 9 will be in a year or two.

As I don’t have the latest hardware in bodies or optics, I don’t need never software for that. But I really like the new features and the optimized workflow DxO offers with PL9. I would say that my style of photography do benefit very much from ViewPoint and somewhat from FilmPack.

Yes it’s annoyed that a new version is released close to the purchase date of the previous version or that it didn’t work as smooth out of the box come some users. But none of us was forced to buy it.
DxO is kind to allow us to try it in its full suite for a month to allow us to get the picture - so to speak.

Hi folks Yep I am in the same Boat, I bought PL8 on (August, 29) and they released on Sept 2.
So($327.93 for PL8) and ($198.06) for PL9 upgrade. ($518.99) three day coast me $191.06, all
they have to do is tell people on there web page there is a new version coming out

In your case I’d be tempted to look at refunding both purchases and then purchasing a “new” copy of PL9 (having checked that it runs well and any bugs with e.g. AI masking aren’t a show-stopper for you).

I sent a Request asking about a Refund on there support page, But after I down Loaded it, I made the mistake of activating it to see what it was like.
This is the reply I got “refund policy is within 14 days of purchase, and only if the software is not activated.”
So If you buy the software do not use it for the fist 14 day Just in case you do Not like it.

So I have been talking to People on FackBook and My web page And have recommended not to Upgrade to PL9. But to have a look at " New ON1 Photo RAW 2026" and let Lightroom catch up to the AI in PL9
ON1 Raw is"$155.31 AUD" compared to PL9 upgrade of “$198.06 AUD”
A hole new programme with some extra Features and AI modules.
Some Have done the above and are very happy to Waite for ON1 Raw in October…

I did not think Lr needed to catch-up!

you have a bad attitude dude. You posted the answer from DXO but not the question you asked. What did you ask exactly ? Maybe you were not very clear in what you asked for. Anyhow first check in your account if you can get it for free. It should say that in the list of licenses you own. If it is not free then so it is. you want the upgrade for free for how long, a month, three months, the whole year ? PL is always updated in September.

I can’t understand your problem, on

they say “If you purchased DxO PhotoLab from August 03, 2025, you should have received an email with a personalized limited-time offer if you agreed to receive our offers and announcements (Newsletter). Unfortunately, no exceptions will be made for purchases prior to this date.”
and your “August, 29” date is within this time-frame.
So what is the problem?

where can I Apply for a refund. There answer was (refund policy is within 14 days of purchase, and only if the software is not activated)
Refund Not and up grade (refund). no one asked for anything FREE.
attitude dude

I think your problem is this: you buy PL8 on August 29, 2025, PL9 is released on September 2, 2025, which you then buy immediately, and now you are demanding that DxO refund your money.

The normal procedure would be to buy PL8, contact DxO to ask if you can get a free code for PL9, and then use that code.

I find your behavior very strange.

Thank you for your help
I have just sent off a request to ask if you can get a free code for PL9
I do appreciate you taking the time to help. that was something I did not Know

As I told you, you asked the wrong question. You asked for a refund and that policy is 14 days. However they have a policy to offer a FREE upgrade (not refund, upgrade) for those that pcrchase the previous version in the least 30 days when a new version comes out. you didn’t ask for that, but you should have. Own your mistake and take it from here.

Having been a long and and loyal customer of DXO, I find it is a bit off having just upgraded to Photolab 8 to be told I have to pay another fair whack of money to upgrade to Photolab 9. Like few others here I just missed the cut off date for a discount.

With respect, if you are a long and loyal customer of DXO how could you not know when you purchased PhotoLab 8 just before the cutoff that a new release was imminent?. Annual releases of the latest version of PhotoLab are implemented like clockwork every September / October.

By the way, when you updated to PhotoLab 8 what version were you using prior to it?

Like many here, I do wish DxO’s upgrade policy was more customer friendly.

I have been through all of my corresponding emails with Dxo and the email with a personalized limited-time offer I can not find . But I have registered for the Newsletter.

One person suggested to try a refund so I tried. I also sent a request to ask if you can get a free code for PL9. There reply was

At this time, there will be no free upgrade will be provided. As you have recently paid for DxO PhotoLab 8, a one time use discount code has been emailed to you to either reduce the cost of upgrading to DxO PhotoLab 9 or can be used on any other software, but may only be used once for a limited time.
The email to reduce the cost of upgrading Also can not be found

Dose any one have any more suggestion…
