I purchased and installed the PL8 upgrade last night. I expected the upgrade to ‘overwrite’ my current installation of PL7 but it actually installed the new (PL8) version and left version PL7 intact.
A couple of questions if I may:
Is this the expected behavior for DXO PhotoLab? (PL7 was my first install of the software).
Is having 2 versions installed concurrently likely to cause any issues?
Is there any reason I would want to (or not want to) uninstall PL7 and will doing so cause any issues?
Some people have a number of older versions still installed on their machines. The biggest concern is using an older version of PhotoLab to process images that have already been edited in a newer version. There are no issues the other way around, using a newer version of PhotoLab to add edits to images previously added in an older version. You should also never try to edit the same image simultaneously in two versions of PhotoLab.
The ability to install different major versions side-by-side makes trying-before-buying and tying your work to particular software versions much easier.
Hi all
i did the same from V6 to V8. Both are working in parallel. But i don’t have my projects in the new version (also the keywords are not complete, maybe because indexing takes some time?)
My questions now:
What is the correct way, to run the new version if i want to delete the old version. I like to have the projects, settings etc. all on the new version only.
Is the correct way, to Backup the Photo Lab Database from V6 and import it to V8 ? Do i have to do additional steps ?
I upgraded from version 6 to 8 on a Mac, and the new version automatically imported all the settings from the old version. Once I confirmed that all was good with version 8 I deleted the version 6 app (I also deleted the “application support” folders and files specific to version 6 but that’s not necessary to do).
Hi,
thanks for the Informations.
On my Win11 pc, it was installed in a new directory. No settings (project, keywords) were imported from V6.
So my upgrade path is to save the DB in V6, close V6, copy the DB as backup, import the DB to V8. Then, i can see my projects from V6 again. Also, i need to index all folders again, for getting back all the keywords.
@DXO, is there an upgrade document with the correct steps available?
