Upgrade to PL8 leaves PL7 installed

I purchased and installed the PL8 upgrade last night. I expected the upgrade to ‘overwrite’ my current installation of PL7 but it actually installed the new (PL8) version and left version PL7 intact.

A couple of questions if I may:

  1. Is this the expected behavior for DXO PhotoLab? (PL7 was my first install of the software).

  2. Is having 2 versions installed concurrently likely to cause any issues?

  3. Is there any reason I would want to (or not want to) uninstall PL7 and will doing so cause any issues?

Thanks for the help!

  1. Yes
  2. Yes if you launch the 2 versions simultaneously on the same file, else No.
  3. The 2 versions are totally independent.

Some people have a number of older versions still installed on their machines. The biggest concern is using an older version of PhotoLab to process images that have already been edited in a newer version. There are no issues the other way around, using a newer version of PhotoLab to add edits to images previously added in an older version. You should also never try to edit the same image simultaneously in two versions of PhotoLab.

The ability to install different major versions side-by-side makes trying-before-buying and tying your work to particular software versions much easier.
