Trying to speed of DXO photolab 8 workflow but can't scroll through images after editing using keyboard

Loving Dxo Photolab 8 for high volume low light wedding images. That said, I find the user interface quite clunky and slow. For example, I’m able to scroll through images before I perform any edits using the arrow keys. As soon as I start editing however, this functionality is gone and I have to click on the next image I want to select with my mouse. Once editing, the arrow keys adjust the slider I am using. Am I missing something here and is there a way to maintain navigation functionality with arrow keys while editing? This would really speed things up for me. Thanks in advance!

When you switch your focus to editing, hasn’t the focus of your input devices also switched to that panel? It is likely that your arrow keys or mouse or trackpad or scroll wheel or whatever input device you’re using is focused on the editing panel. Try re-establishing focus to the area you’re trying to affect by clicking your mouse or trackpad there or by making sure the cursor is over that area.

EDIT TO ADD Pressing the TAB key may also change focus to a different panel. On a Mac, turn on Keyboard Navigation on the Keyboard panel of System Settings. On a PC, it has been so long that I have forgotten. :man_shrugging:

Welcome to the DxO USER forum, Mark.

As Karl notes, the action resulting from keyboard input will depend on the current “focus” of PhotoLab.

  • If you have been clicking on sliders in “Customize” mode then PL’s focus is on those controls - and using arrow-keys will further adjust slider settings.

  • If you have clicked on an image in the Image Browser then PL’s focus is on the list of images in the current folder - and using arrow-keys will shift selection to the next/previous image in that list.

So, the action resulting from using the arrow-keys will depend on where you last applied focus. Think of it as saying; “Hey, PL, direct your attention here” … and PL will respond accordingly.

Hi Karl and John-M, thank you for your replies. I figured this might bethe case, but it seems like a very inefficient interface compared to software that has dedicated scroll buttons. Don’t get me wrong, nothing comes close to DXO in terms of noise reduction in raw and the colour profile selection is really nice, but for all-out speed with the editing interface, there is definite room for improvement. Having to click back to the non-editing panel really slows down the editing process when you are dealing with thousands of images. I will put in a feature suggestion with tech support.

As someone new to DxO PhotoLab, it may turn out that you are better off learning to use the software as it exists today, and not immediately trying to change it. Be patient. Subtleties will be revealed the more you use it.

There’s truth in that, but I am a long time user. I am new to the forums, however  Using Photolab 8 a lot more now since having purchased a much faster gpu last year

Then I think you know what I am talking about.

Welcome @ontariomark

There are simpler and more logical ways
Click in the viewer (active image) and press right-arrow.
If a function is active, press ENTER first.

Yes I find this annoying too. I understand that the editing panel has the focus after applying an edit, but as you say dedicated previous/next image keys would be great. Ideally with the same editing panel having the focus when the next/previous image appears.
