In my case, the real benefit is this: I use the (half linear sized) JPEGs for sharing when traveling. I take along an iPad and do a few edits here or there or not at all and move the selected images into a shared folder. Doing this, I don’t need to drag along a computer.
(Easier than the poste restante letters I sent and got when I traveled Australia in 1988)
