Just noticed when I select a different film emulation the histogram does not change unlike when I move the tone sliders. I assume it should or am I missing something?
Film emulations do not alter adjustment sliders, they apply a “look and feel” which you can then fine tune.
In my case it does change, as expected. PL9.1/Win.
Interesting. On my Mac, using only the supplied emulations including the regular FilmPack, none of the adjustments change.
On the other hand, using the FilmPack Time Machine changes all sorts of stuff.
But the histogram does change if you change Rendering only,
because tonal/color mapping is different.
@corgi – can you provide an example when histogram does not change?
Will do. BTW. I am on a Mac.
Sorry to report, I used PL9 a few times today (shut down, restarted) and after the program start for getting the requested screen shots, selecting a film emulation does change the histogram; hovering over the emulation changes the display, but not the histogram. I was selecting the emulation today to no effect on the histogram after repeated restarts, my usual first step when I encounter something like this. Surprised because PL9 has been quite stable on my Mac. Nevertheless, thanks everyone for looking into this.
I would expect Mac and Win image processing engines to be more or less the same, but on the user interface (UI) level they have to use different platforms, hence so many Mac/Win differences observed in this forum. If other Mac users confirm your findings, it might point to Mac-specific PL9 bug.
Running M4 Mac here, On Tahoe and PL9.1.1 build 26.
Perhaps not understanding the question correctly, but checking the histogram behavior while making changes at the Rendering dropdown under the Color/B&W Rendering tool.
Here’s the behavior on my machine:
The histogram does not change while simply scrolling over the rendering options, even though the image does. Once a film type is selected the histogram does change. Sliding the Intensity slider causes the histogram to change appropriately. Toggling the Color/B&W Rendering tool off/on also toggles the histogram.
This applies to Rendering changes in all “Types” - Generic, Color Positive, Color Negative, Cross Processed, Digital, and Cinematic.
None of the other adjustment sliders (for exposure, contrast, Hue, etc) move when changing film simulation.
My starting (default) settings are: Type = “Generic rendering”, and Rendering=“default color profile”.
Hope this addresses the question being asked. The behavior of this tool seems the same as in PL8.
Are you experiencing something different?
I tested ten of Nikon Zf raw files. First I used the No Corrections preset to set all the tested raw files. I noted the Histogram and then tested each of the ten raw files with two different Film Types., Adox Color Implosion and Agfa Ultra Color 100. The Histograms changed very significantly for each film type, exactly as I would have expected

On the Windows version just scrolling through the film types changes the histogram for every film type and once a film type is selected the histogram is set to the same values as when scrolling. That makes perfect sense to me. I suspect that could be a bug in the Mac version. It sounds like the histogram on the Mac only changes when adjustments are applied.
