PL7.13.0 Time Machine button failure

I have FP7 activated within PL7 (and even though I know I don’t need it, I have FP7 standalone installed).

The Time Machine feature is not something use much, I can’t remember when I last tried it but today it’s not behaving as I remember it:

  1. When I click on the ‘Apply Preset’ button in the top right of PL’s ‘Customize’ tab then one of the options is ‘DxO Film Pack Time Machine’, which offers a range of presets. Any of which can be selected and applied to the currently selected image. So far so normal and as expected.

  2. When I click on the ‘DxO FilmPack Time Machine’ button that’s at the foot of the ‘Color/BW Rendering’ palette all that happens is that an empty box appears. It doesn’t matter what rendering ‘Type’ I select, this button only creates an empty box. I’m pretty sure that’s not right.

Is there anybody else here using PL7.13+FP7 on Windows 10 (fully patched) that can report how the Time Machine button is behaving on their system?

NB I’ve already rerun the PL7.13 installer to repair PL7.

Thanks

#2
it opens this windows … (on my 2nd screen)

where I can choose the → timeframe / year (here: 1950)

.
to then open as …

where I can choose … (here: 1/5)
and → apply the “Matching renderings” (here: Kodak Tri X)

[ side note-- my FP7 standalone version setup … ]

hope that helps

While I regularly use PhotoLab 8.5, I still have PhotoLab 7 installed on my Windows 10 desktop. I just updated it to version 7.13 and had no difficulty using the Time Machine feature. It operated exactly as expected. The problem is probably a glitch of some sort on your machine. While it is may not be the cause of your issue, have you installed the latest drivers for your GTX 1050ti? Are you using the Studio driver or the gaming driver? I suggest you use the studio driver, which is often more stable, if you are not already doing so.

Thank you @Wolfgang, your screen shots prompted to realise the Time Machine button was probably invoking a web browser, specifically MS Edge. I’ve confirmed that is the case because when I unblock Edge, the button works as expected.

@mwsilvers Yes, the problem was specific to my PC. Whether that’s a glitch or not depends on your view of the pervasive nature of MS Edge and the benefits of turning it off totally

Perhaps I am missing something, but, why do you think that Edge has something to do with this issue?

I don’t think, I know.

On my PC Edge is normally blocked, totally, using Edge Blocker v2.0. In that state, the Time Machine button does nothing other than pop-up an empty frame. However, if I unblock Edge, then the Time Machine button works as expected.

This behaviour is understandable because if you look in this folder:
C:\Program Files\DxO\DxO PhotoLab 7\TimeMachine7
you will find HTML pages that hold the content that is displayed in the Time Machine window. PL obviously displays those pages by invoking Edge (which is so hard wired into Windows it’s part of the OS rather than a stand-alone browser) and not by invoking the default browser (Firefox in my case). Thus when Edge is blocked, nothing happens.

Does this help?

Useful information to know.
