Photolab 3 unsaved masked leaving trace on reset image

Trying out local adjustment tool. Didn’t save any masks, but clicked undo symbol, and reset image in top right corner. But a faint effect of the masks I tried, without saving, are still evident. Have restarted DXO, but made no difference. Tried remedies suggested by Google AI. No change. Thing is. I had the same image saved in another folder, but that is also affected, as are other previously cropped and saved versions, with their own file names, which I had not tried local adjustments on. What can I do?

Are you sure you mean Photolab 3, which is a very old version that was released back in 2019?

What happens when you:

  1. Close Photolab
  2. Rename your problem image file
  3. Restart Photolab and check your renamed problem image file

Does that reset things back to just whatever your default preset applies?

Yes I am sure. Thanks for your input.

Try this at your own risk:

  1. Outside of PL, make a copy of the problem image file and ensure it is in a folder that’s never been, or will get, touched by Photolab
  2. Open PL and find the problem image
  3. Use PL to delete the problem image, i.e. RIGHT click on it and click ‘Remove’
  4. Close PL

I think steps 1-4 will not only delete the file from the folder, together with any associated .dop file, but will also remove all traces of the problem image from the PL database.

  1. Outside of PL, move the copy of the image file you made back into the folder it belongs in
  2. Reopen PL and look at the file, it should be completely clean and devoid of any edits, of any kind, that you made to it. The only ‘edits’ you should see are those applied by the default preset.

I remember that PL3 had some really weird issues with the local adjustment tool, some weird bugs that were only fixed in PL5 and later versions if I remember correctly.

Stuff like the same adjustment applied to multiple images rather than only the one that was selected, local adjustments moving around by themselves, etc

It was occasional, not repeatable, but it was a nuisance.

I would strongly suggest an update!
