I am looking for software to manage my images. Search and find across folders based on data like camera, lens, aperture, location etc.
I am using DxO PL9 for processing the raw images but I am looking for a program to organize and find my images that is not Lightroom or Cloud or AI based…
May I recall that, unless something has changed recently, the DAM part of Lightroom is free. That is, it continues to work even if you stop (or never begin) to pay for the subscription.
From LR, you can post-process your images with whatever software you want.
For years I have been using IMatch for anything DAM-related and am very happy with it. IMatch has a lively community and any questions are usually answered (often by the program developer) within hours. I can heartily recommend IMatch.
And for me it was very important - Photo Supreme is available als Single User and Client-Server.
Here a Link from Developer how you can work with both programs
Yes, anything you type into the search bar will search any folder it has indexed.
E.g. if you have 10 folders and each of them have 5 images ISO100, and you index all 10 folders, then if you search for ISO100 images in PL, it will show you all 50 images in the search results.
The Photolab database is SQLite, like in many other post-processing applications. You can manage it using SQLite compatible tools like SQL Expert (free edition) :
ttps://www.sqliteexpert.com/ .
In SQLite Expert you can use various tools from the Database menu to analyse, repair, modify, optimize, etc. the PL database.
By the way, if you use SQLite Expert to compare the architecture of the PL database to the one of Lightroom, you’ll immediately understand why PL cannot offer the same services as LR regarding DAM.
It can remove any information you want once you have identified in which table and on which line it is is located. But you can’t do anything specific to DPL.
However, the architecture of the DPL database is easy to understand. Very simplistic. The names of the tables are almost self-explanatory.
There’s new option ‘Show missing folders’ in the FOLDERS bar, hidden under the three dots in PL10.0.1/Win. You can then use right-click and remove all or just one missing folder and its contents:
I had a lot of “orphans” coming from manual folder management since PL7, my database was 1.7GB with 175,000 ‘Sources’, never reindexed, now it’s 1.2GB with 127,000 ‘Sources’. Maybe there are still some “orphans” left (?), but PL startup time seems to be shorter now. BEWARE: this (single-threaded) cleanup process took 70 minutes, using i7-14700KF (plus NVme disk) and you can’t use PL during that time.
