Ahh, Apple and naming*.
“MacBook Pro” is a laptop line.
“M5”, “M5 Pro’“, and “M5 Max” are versions of Apple Silicon SoCs. (SoC = System on Chip, as it’s more than just a CPU.)
There is a MacBook Pro with M5, a Macbook Pro with M5 Pro and a MacBook Pro with M5 Max.
I guess you mean “MacBook Pro (M5 Pro)” (which is how it is normally written).
In answer to which, not me. I have a MacBook Pro (M4 Pro) which is still an excellent machine. I probably won’t start thinking about upgrading until at least M7.
My machine has 48 GB of RAM which is complete overkill. It also has 4 TB of internal storage so I can maintain my entire library of (mostly) DSLR photos on it. That wasn’t overkill except if you think of it financially.
*See also “Mac Pro” when people mean “Mac mini (M4 Pro)”. “Mac Pro” is actually a very different, very expensive computer.
Apologies. Original post renamed.
Overkill? Until it isn’t……. but your correct MacBook M4 pro here with 24Gb is ample at moment
Nice. Getting Apple names straight can be a chore, but it’s generally worth the clarity. It’s even worse when on podcasts, and one has to distinguish carefully between “Max” and “Macs”.
Apple’s naming department needs a good talking to. I think they must have such a department because even a random approach to names wouldn’t be this bad.
