Too late. I already threw up at the sight of yet another sycophantic post that takes advantage of DxO’s resources to promote someone else’s tool.

Ah yes, that will be the rally car that requires you to spend weeks reading the manual before you can find the ignition key, then even longer to find out how to press the accelerator.

So, you’re really suggesting that us long time Mac users throw out our machines that run DxO efficiently and buy a Windows PC just to run one app? Not counting the time it is going to take to learn Windows before we knuckle down to learning the software.

Please, please stop trolling these groups if you have nothing useful to say about DxO’s products. Go infest Darktable’s groups instead.

As I have said before, Darktable is worth every cent of its price (worth nothing). Unless you realise that you need to spend lots and lots of time. Those of us who earn a living would rather work with an intuitive product such as PhotoLab rather than waste time having to learn.

The world of free software has always had that slight whiff of sectarianism that spoils a good idea. I don’t like your answer to Joanna.

Sometime it does.
Just ask any very experimented 3d artist to use houdini if he has never used it. He will be completly! lost. Nevertheless it’s one of the fastest, most powerful bolide ever produced, designed with incredible analytical mastery.
But you need to relearn the basics to use it.
And then a new world opened up.

Well, as others have done, I have spent days trying to get into Darktable, which makes me experienced. We also have a member of our club photo who has used it for many years - and every time he gives a demonstration, he always seems to get totally lost, flitting from tool to tool, trying things out, but not giving anyone any confidence that he has mastered it.

In the meantime, I simply get on with creating beautiful prints with PhotoLab and Topaz Photo AI.

As for free software, I can’t afford to rely on a disparate bunch of amateur developers to somehow, sometime get around to agreeing on design and functionality. The current UI is a nightmare

This statement was not for you, Joanna. You include yourself as a victim of my answer to another person.
I am not surprised, that your experience with Darktable is partly based on others who also struggle with the architecture. It’s confirming to share a common aversion.

At the same time I am glad to hear that you are confident with PhotoLab and Topaz Photo AI - because you probably would waste time on Darktable. Fair enough, neither do I believe that Darktable is for busy wedding photographers or the alike. But I know that some professional photographers prefere it, not because it is free but because they are pleased with what it offers (and without being religious).
We all have our personal favorites and ideas of value for money.

So, can we all talk freely about our favorites, or is free software excluded?

Nope, not that at all. Look at the list of apps I included in my previous post. Are they all the same? No, but they all follow some basic principles of human-computer interface design that have been well understood for decades.

Anyway, @Joanna is right. This forum is for discussing DxO products. We should cease this line of argument now with an agreement to disagree.

Everyone take a chill pill and play nice please :kissing_heart:

We all have the right to disagree. If you don’t want my opinion then stop presenting your own.
