Masking layers to darken distinct areas

Hi All, I have been using Photoshop for a good many years and have started using DXO Photolab only recently. In Photoshop, when I want to darken or lighten a distinct area, I create a new smart object layer, Mask that layer and change the dark areas I want to darken. The layer is then revealed using a brush. I cannot find a similar option in DXO Photolab.

Probably something simple that I am missing but any help much appreciated.

Cheers

PhotoLab does not use traditional masking layers. Just use one or more of the Local Adjustments masking types, singly or in combination, to selectively mask whatever areas you want to be be modified and adjust those masks using whichever of the local adjustment tool gives you the results you want.

Glad to hear it. With PL 9, DxO made a number of significant changes to Local Adjustment masking besides the addition of AI masks. Multiple masks of any type can now be combined in ways not possible in earlier versions, and parts of all the mask types can now be can erased a well as protected. Current masking selections can be quite complex and takes PhotoLab masking to a whole different level. There are so many new masking possibilities that even those of use who are very experienced users of PhotoLab have not fully explored the all the potential of LA masking.
