Image blurring whilst adjusting sliders

I am getting blurring whilst editing images when using sliders - really annoying - finding myself avoiding PL and using Lightroom because of this - anyone got any clue why it might be doing this . HQ previews and deep prime rendering turned off - using M4 Macbook pro with Wacom tablet - Mac set to auto select AI acceleration (Apple Neural Engine)

If you select ā€œEnable high quality previewsā€ in the Display tab of Preferences it resolves that behavior when using sliders . See my attachment below. That option is not selected by default so that performance on low-end hardware is not compromised.

I’ve tried thst it helps a little but as soon as I use AI masks it worsens and the more masks I use the slower the adjustment is - I have mentioned this in another post - sometimes the adjustment takes between 7 and 11 seconds to take effect when using AI masks.

PL is not well optimised when it comes to masking and is notorious for having performance issues on some systems. I’ve actually taken to making guessing adjustment values when masking (especially AI masking) and then exporting, then tweaking based off the exported image. It’s actually quicker than waiting for PL to finish ā€œgenerating a previewā€ for me.

I’d leave ā€œhigh quality previewsā€ and ā€œEnable DeepPRIME renderingā€ off in the options - I find both tank my performance even more.

Versus competing software, PL is not well optimised.

exact opposite have everything turned on zero issues quite quick.

You’d certainly hope so if your system is no more than 17 months old.

That’s my spec - do you use multiple AI masks? Thinking that might be an issue??

What is your hardware setup?

goodness me 5 masks at times with subtasks etc etc

M4 Mac mini/32gb, macOS Sequoia, no issues, haven’t seen that.

HQ Previews is ON/Deep Prime Previews OFF

Hmm - must try an figure this out!

It does seem like everyone has a different experience when it comes to PL performance.

I’m working on an almost-6-year-old M1 MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM, 26mp Fujifilm X-T4 images.

I’ve got DeepPRIME rendering and High Quality Previews turned on.

I can have multiple apps open (including ones like Affinity) while PL is open, apply 4-5 AI masks, have DeepPRIME turned on, and make several adjustments without having too much of a lag. Yes it’s not instant, but most of the changes to sliders are nearly so, and the worst ones (with the exception of something like the ā€œhorizonā€ slider which always takes a long time for some reason) still only leave the image ā€œhangingā€ for about 0.5-1.0 second and with no blurring.

Not sure why your M4 is struggling so!

just crazy isn’t it. I know people on windows that haven’t had to much grief my heart bleeds for those with problems almost guilty when I say no issues

I have an M1 Max (?) with 32GB and performance is similar…………but not consistent. 45mp Nikon Z7. Sometimes I turn high quality previews off but most of the time leave it on without issues. It is hard to predict what will cause brief delays.

I do not turn off DeepPrime rendering ever because that is pretty much the main reason I am using PL.

Occasionally some sliders cause the image to ā€˜blink’ which is annoying but extremely brief. Often, if I am at 100% and scrolling across an image with masks and DeepPrime 3 the image will be broken into tiny squares (not pixelated) in the direction I am scrolling across it. Again, annoying but very brief effect.

I don’t really feel the need of seeing the result of DeepPrime instantly. I set the limit to ISO8000 on my camĆ©ra and I know that the denoising is very efficient.

About the delay to building masks, it is not very fast but since AI, the gain of prƩcision and total time of masking is important.

I’m new to AI noise reduction, or any effective noise reduction for that matter, and the novelty hasn’t worn off yet and I like to see the effect right away.
