I started using PL8 two weeks ago and was super happy until today, when I had two incidents where a correction (crop) was unintentionally applied to all photos inside a folder, and I had to manually undo all the changes (one by one) for over 40 photos. I still don’t know what I did wrong, but in any case, it shouldn’t be this easy to inadvertently batch edit all your photos, especially when PL8 doesn’t offer a single-step “Undo batch edits” operation… the fact it happened twice to me on the same day probably means it’s happened to many people, and I would consider this a UX bug.
As far as I can tell I never selected multiple images, I was editing the images one by one and suddenly the crop that should be applied to one image was applied to all images in the folder. Then a couple of hours later the same thing happened again.
Unfortunately, once the photos are de-selected, Undo becomes unavailable, so it’s not a reliable solution. In my case, I don’t recall ever selecting multiple images, when I noticed the accident I had only 1 image selected and Undo was no longer available.
Unfortunately Cmd-Z doesn’t work as a batch Undo if you realise your mistake after you’ve selected a different image to those previously (batch) selected.
See these videos showing the Undo behaviour in PL5 for Mac and Windows. In my opinion, the behaviour of Undo is preferable on the Windows version.
Mac batch undo:
Win batch undo:
I made these videos over a year ago now I think, so this isn’t a new problem (on Mac) unfortunately.
@CHPhoto thanks for the videos, for once it seems the UX on Windows is better than on Macs.
What’s the best way to report bugs / request feedback from the DxO team? I guess I should have added the “bug” tag to this topic, but I can no longer edit the topic. Or should I use https://support.dxo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new ?
I’m not dure what the best way is, but I submit feddback by logging into my account on dxo.com and then use the Contact us form.
I normally get a ‘thank you for your feedback, it has been gorwarded to the relevant person’ type response, but I figure that it has at least been read by someone at DxO which it can’t be said for sure by simply pisting in this forum area.
