How do you save

How do you save adjustments in PL, when I export into Lightroom, there’s now adjustments made

Sorry for being thick lol

Export to Lightroom as 16 bit TIFF.

Don’t use 8 bit formats (tiff of jpeg) because they are a poor basis for further editing
Don’t use DNG, unless you want to use PL’s optical corrections and denoising only.

Note: other directions might apply depending on what you actually do in PL and Lr. If you use PL as a pre-processor to Lightroom, DNG can be used, but don’t use the new HiFi compression. It’s good as a last step, but isn’t as a first step for further customising.

thank you, I saved in DNG, a lot to learn yet

If I may add to @platypus reply, you don’t really need to “save” your edits. That is done automatically. Unless you need create a version for use outside of PL, all your edits will be written to a DOP sidecar file or to the database.

Best format for printing or further pixel editing is TIFF and, for sending or posting is JPG.

And you don’t need to keep the exported files after use, as they can be regenerated as and when required

Thanks Joanna, my main problem was exporting as a dng, all ok now with tiff, thanks for the reply.

I’ve definitely found myself looking for a traditional “Save” button more than once before realizing the edits are just writing to the database or sidecars in real-time. It’s actually pretty nice not having to worry about a crash wiping out a bunch of work.

Things happen and you best make sure to back up regularly. Some recommend a 3-2-1 strategy:

3 copies, 2 different technologies, 1 copy off-site.

As a general rule Pixel editors have Save features and raw editors/processors, which are non destructive, do not. They automatically save edits in side car files and/or a database and are burnt into to tiff and jpeg files during export. After a recent change by DxO, exporting to DNG files only burns in optical corrections.
