I trialled PL 9 and it failed to export 50% of the time when I used AI masks. I’m using an NVIDIA 4070 laptop card with 8G VRAM. I still see lots of grumbling here but since my trial is long over and I can’t test PL9.4 does anyone know if they’ve solved the problem?
Recent posts in the form indicate that the problem still exists under certain conditions. For example:
Your GPU meets not only the minimum requirements in PhotoLab’s release notes, but the recommended guidelines also. Still, some not-yet-resolved issues could manifest on export or even during mask creation. Updating all drivers is recommended at this point, though, as some problems have indeed been fixed.
@DocBobB and @Egregius My experience with the St Pancras Station image shows the export process with AI Presets, in particular ‘Sky’, ‘Vehicles’ and ‘People’ and with an additional set of user selections for the building.
The presets are used alone or in combination and the following is the result on my 5600G(32GB) + 3060(12GB) with PL9.4 (Nvidia 591.74) and with NO NR set.
VC[5] omits ‘People’ because in tests on earlier releases the ‘People’ preset was failing!?
Typically I expect that after one failure the export worker becomes “screwed up” but here it managed just fine but I did terminate the export worker between the two tests!
I terminated the export worker and ran a test with XD2s set on all copies and got
i.e. ‘People’ failed this time and may well have been responsible for the failure of VC[6].
So when these tests pass without incident on a release of PL9.x I will consider it well on the way to recovery and create a large batch and run them on both my machines and if they pass then I can start complaining about the impact on the speed of the UI! ![]()
In my case the export failure has been resolved (fortunately). I did the export of 7 Pancras pictures (1 Original w/o AI-masks + 6 virtual copies with activated AI-mask-presets) without any failure for several times.
I am already in the state Bryan mentioned, complaining about the low speed of the export (more than 2 min per AI-masked picture)
. But I think with a faster GPU (e.g. RTX 5070ti) I guess, the export speed could be improved significantly.
My computer: CPU: Ryzen 9950x3d, 64GB DDR5, GPU: RTX 3070 (8GB VRAM), PL 9.4.0, latest NVIDIA-Driver.
Nevertheless it cannot be excluded that for certain hardware configurations still severe problems exist. I am aware that my hardware configuration is - with the exception of the GPU - at a top position (I just received this new computer).

I swapped my RX 6600 XT 8GB for an RX 9060 XT 16GB, and then the AI masking and noise reduction started working perfectly.
Are you using the latest drivers with your 9060XT ? I am having export issues on mine with AMD adrenalin software reporting a driver timeout error.
