LensInfo provided by the lens in the Exif is 375-1000mm f/11.2 but the aperture of the image is f/11.0
As f/11.0 is inferior to f/11.2), hat image is not accepted. Images with an aperture superior or equal to f/11.2 should be OK.
We are planning to fix it in the next quarter, but not yet for the next release.
I had to try, Mark and put together a wild combo of a Nikkor 500 with 2× Nikon TC, a metabones Nikon F > L-mount adapter and a Sigma 2× TC. Getting a 2000 mm f/22, only usable “wide open” as no electrical thingies are involved. And fully manual focus, of course. With a focus ring optimized for speed, not for accuracy, I had the feeling, 0.1° turn already was too much.
What I found super-interesting (as in “very new for me”) was how much of the dynamic range was lost, simply by adding more glass in between. And the enlargement of some fibres somewhere in this “construction”. Nothing on the sensor, but any particle on one of the many surfaces also gets enlarged.
I once tried a Nikon P1000 with its “24-3000 mm” zoom range (actually 4.25-531 mm, cropfactor is 5.66). It was not worse image-quality and focused faster than I could.
But back to the topic: I need to reconsider my definition of bizarre. If DxO has time to work on lens profiles for this combo, it can be that bad, and the difference between f/11 and f/11.2 as factor for doable and impossible feels like a top secret, highly specific lab.
“works fine with TC1.25x + TC1.4x” is referring to DxO Module being applied, not to pictures shot with combo.
I am mostly shooting bif, handheld, and tried both TCs with/without TC1.25x in my early days with this lens to have an idea of eventual interest for when my joints start to cry for a seat and a tripod, and also from time to time during a complete outing to practice framing and panning with longer focal length.
I see. My experience with about 4 different converters mostly was “equal to crop afterwards”. Might be different with a few prime teles, but Fuji 100-400 + 2×TC missed focus more often, raised ISO due to 2 stops lost for TC. Also, the smaller the sensor, the quicker diffraction blur occurs. In theory it sounds cool, one great tele-zoom and with lower cost X× the focal length.
I just was not able to get a convincing TC shot which looked as good as the non-TC shots. Thanks to your combination idea I also tried 2 TCs, not to make fun out of you, I was just curious how “bad” or whatever that would look. I was expecting worse, to be honest, and I haven’t tried earlier because Nikon TCs (at least 1.7× and 2.0×) can’t be coupled together. Is Olympus’ shake reduction working well with that combo?
Olympus IS works more than fine for me (E-M1X or OM-1) and I do not notice any difference when TCs are on or not, which is a little miracle with such long resulting focal length.
Thomas Stirr (https://smallsensorphotography.com/) is regularly using TCs on his M.Zuiko 100-400mm f/5-6.3 with convincing results, imho (look for MC-14 or MC-20 for direct access to articles)
sorry these seem not to solve the problem (adjusting the aperture to a value > 11).
I’ve tried that and the result is the same. It seems like the lens will not be identified correctly.
In DXO metadata it shows only as M.150-400mm F4.5 TC + MC-20, whereas without the internal TC
there is shown M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 150-400mm F4.5 IS PRO with TC x2.0 (Micro 4/3).
So maybe DXO PL simply does not recognize the lens? I would appreciate any feedback.
Wow, I was curious now, didn’t know this lens has an inbuilt 1.25× TC and is compatible with TC 2×. Olympus always has great glass, but that detail was new to me.

It seems you pointed something out.
Image info correctly report the internal TC1.25x when used in combination with TC1.4x but not with TC2.0x, resulting in the optics module not being loaded, although duly installed.
The Laowa 6mm f2.0 in m43 mount, has electronic contacts, so like DXO did for the Laowa 10mm f2.0, it woud be wonderful to get a lens profile supplied.
I have to say that I have the same problem - using 150-400 with internal TC 1.25x (M.Zuiko Digital ED 150-400mm F4.5 TC1.25x IS PRO) and MC20 (i.e. Zuiko TC 2x) - is not working PhotoLab don’t recognize this combination).
Can it be solved?

There are now six Voigtländer lens designs for the Nikon Z mount as well some for Fuji, Sony and others. It would be nice to see support for some of them. I’ve already added support requests for two of them via the database, the Voigtländer D 35mm f/1.2 Nokton for Nikon Z and the Voigtländer D 23mm f/1.2 Nokton for Nikon Z. The ones designed for the Nikon Z mount have electrical contacts to pass aperture and metadata to the camera.
