DxO Photolab v10

I’m assuming this is a serious request …

… in which case, why not simply use the ReTouch tool (Press “N” on Windows) ??

such a case:

I tried GPT Images—it performs well, but: 1) it distorts facial features, and 2) it lowers the resolution. It’s not suitable for reportage photography—at best, it’s good for experiments.

IMHO, the backpack in the original picture looks less distracting than what GPT came with. It’s also a “proof” that the image was not AI generated

As it currently stands, PhotoLab, like Capture One, is focused on getting good image quality (meaning somewhat different things in both cases), rather than fixing “user errors” or “sh.t just happens” situations (missing ‘i’ to keep the censor happy). Fixing such things is purely RGB work and requires huge ML training resources, so I think they will leave it to specialized software. Hopefully DxO will work on “AI skin perfection” first, meaning automatic taming of blemishes and all types of wrinkles, still keeping the natural look.

BTW, the backpack doesn’t look waterproof, so perhaps consider buying something specilized for such trips. Speaking from my own bad experience and costly camera mainboard replacement :frowning:

Ive bin using the trail for a few days now and v9 vs v10 is a small leap forward. More improving the working of it all. But as a hole i find v10 worthly to buy/upgrade i think.

My new Desktop, not so new anymore , just bought before AI ruïnt the pricing for my son’s want to buy. Geesh RAM and such is going to the roof lately.

Runs stable, almost too much choice in editings tools. personally i found the choice of tools and there are several tools doing the same but just a bit different and this clutters your expertise due the fact you approache a image often the same way and only switch to something else if the normal route doesn’t work.

AI: works often just well enough to keep it as a option for a quick fix.

“Whites” slider that one is great much better then tone curve usage.

what i absolute getting frustrated about is the “old” problem of eyedroppers and other mousepointer command change from locals which are keeping active even when i uncheck the tab “locals”. You MUST uncheck the eyedropper, masking pointer and such which causes a lot of undesired masking clicks which i have to change by history step back. (i would like to have default mouse pointer if i uncheck the “local tab” and when i click again local tab its waits until i choose again to get back to a dedicated eydrop or masking point. Now i need to check my “mousepointer” to see if i am in “normal mode” and if not remember which tool i used to active “special mode” to go back to to uncheck this mode. But maybe its just me that’s having this problem.

The Masking possibility’s are great doh, i wouldnt know what i need more. too much choice.

One thing i am still would like to have as a feature is nonsharpening dehaze function. ( now applied by using tonecurve bottom part. (They should build in the "DxO ClearViewPlus tool two sub sliders which have plus and negative slider for sharpening(Clarity called in Silkypix) just dehazing, blacklevel, Dehaze called in Silkypix. )

and I bought Silkypix v12 pro for panasonic because it’s very cheap for raw stacking and it supports my G9 pixelshift high res mode and it has very good colorcasting correction in WB. And some other stuff like camerastyle from camera. But mostly for contrast curveline’s visible in the tonecurve tool so you can have smooth tonality changes by curved contrast. ( very good for finding solutions if DxO doesn’t get what i was looking for then i switch and see what’s possible in there. Small detail DNG isn’t supported in the "for panasonic"version only in the full and that is 3x the cost as the pana version same with licence full is 3x for pana is 1x.

If you have a Panasonic or a Fujifilmcamera check it out. DXO in a hole is better at most things and i am used to it more ( i jumped to dxo for the denoising and the optical module on v1.2 elite because with a m43 that key for your image.) but i stil got a softspot for Silypix because it’s completely tailored for my Panasonic cams and it even mimic camera settings which are normally only effecting ooc-jpec for other aplications. ok they have strange names for presets they call it “Tastes” ok enough about SP

few days left for testing and then i wait for black friday to continue my discovery.

my hope for the v11 is “Decluttering” of the user interface. And a dedicated Editing tab for IPTC, KEYWORDS and METADATA , renaming filenames. ( so “photoLibrary” which is for searching and selecting, a File Editing Tab for template on IPTC, and all other file related commands, and the “Customise” only then i can stop using Adobe Bridge for my DAM editting and have less risk of destroying my xmp files and keywording system by letting two stearingwheels active on the same car…

Yes, I agree that this is VERY annoying, Peter - but I don’t expect DxO to be “fixing” this any time soon … as some users think this is a useful feature !!

In the meantime, simply hit the Esc-key (for Windows) and the sticky-tools will go away.

yeh, that’s as workaround easy to remember. But stil i am very fond of smooth things. As less as possible key stroke combinations (short keys) to remember.

If you have a mouse in one hand and a cigarette in the other, you may also double-click the ReTouch button

LOL! i don’t smoke. ah put a banded on it click click

i have a memory problem for short keys specialy when they change per application ..

Just don’t use them enough to remember. ( when i played videogames when i was younger i wrote commands on a paper so i could peak at them like R= reload , Q = quick map F= telescope… because in the heat of the moment i forgot…

yep not very good at it

So i like look, point and click…
job done.

ive bin too busy with al kinds of things, still are, so i have not many flying hours on plv9 this year. i am trying to catch up on editing lately so any known trade trics( if i remebered them) are old like v7 old.

PLv9/v10 i would say lots of masking possibility’s are nice but then again lots of them are closely similair but just differrent enough to try out a few for a certain “problem” So editting speed is not that high, image for image, but well my time is free , limited but free.
