Is it safe to update to macOS 27.0 once it is released? Are there any known issues with Photolab 10 from the beta phase of macOS 27?
Never rush for the newest versions before youâve checked whether your daily-use apps work in the new environment. Be specially careful if you earn your income with your computer.
That being said, Iâve tested macOS 27 betas on a separate volume on a separate device and found the OS to be stable - and a tad more reasonable from a user interface point of view.
Every new software has known - and unknown - bugs and whether and how far you want to lean out of the window entirely depends on your on risk appetite.
If you must, do the following:
- back up your Mac
- add a volume onto which you install macOS 27
- add copies of images and apps as needed onto that new volume
- test, test, test
- produce answers to âwhat do I win/loose by (not) upgrading?â
- decide
- back up your Mac
- act according to your educated decision

JâĂ©tais dĂ©jĂ en 27 beta depuis un certain temps, pas eu de souci avec PL9 et PL10.
Iâd already been using the 27 beta for a while, and hadnât had any issues with PL9 or PL10.
I want to know something slightly different. What has DXOâs policy been regarding the previous version, i.e. one version back from current, in relation to newest MacOS??? For example, will DXO allow a fresh install of PL9 on the latest MacOS 27?
Iâm pretty confident that if I upgrade to 27, PL 9 will work. But if I do a fresh install of 27, not an upgrade, will the installer for PL 9 run?
I was quite pissed with DXO many years ago when my paid-for Nik Collection wouldnât install on a fresh install of an OS that I had already been using the collection with. I had upgraded the latest OS initially and the collection ran completely normally. After the fresh install, however, the installers wouldnât run because of a version check embedded in the installer. A support request really angered me when DXO insisted that my version of Nik would not run on the latest OS, even though it clearly would⊠it DID! They would not budge or help me out.
Finally someone dropped the terminal commands in my forum complaints (probably here on this forumâŠ), which told the installer to bypass the version checks. Sure as heck, the apps all installed and ran fine.
So⊠Iâm more than a little concerned that this is a strategy with DXO to push people to pay for upgrades they donât actually need.
What has their policy been concerning previous PL versions and latest MacOS? This is one area where Windows users tend to win.
Edit: Found the answer.
After a clean re- install of a Mac, I copy the license files from a backup to the appropriate path and find that PhotoLab et al. run, no questions asked.
New Macs need new activations though. Also check the license management in your shop account to see if the allowed number of activations (devices) has been reached. If so, remove an unwanted device from the list and activate the newly installed product after waiting a minute or so.
Note that older versions of PL can run on newer versions of macOS even if the respective field isnât green. The matrix is more of a service life document rather than something purely technical.
I thank you all for your input. I just want to let you know that I did the update to macOS 27. Pl 10 runs like a charm without any issues so far. It even feels a little bit snappier.
According to people who tend to be knowledgeable, macOS 27 was made for speed and stability rather than for loads of new features. And yes, PL10 seems to do its job in a remarkably smooth way for a dot zero release, also considering that it runs on a 2020 M1 MacBook Air.
Nevertheless, I test with my usual approach of an updated clone on a separate volume.
Macintosh HD â Original installation, currently macOS Sequoia
Macintosh HE â Extras like installers for PL and macOS
Macintosh HF â Fotos (Photo Archive)
Macintosh HG â Clone of HD, updated to Golden Gate
Great information! Thank you.
I just upgraded tonight and PL10 runs fine (seems faster, too).
Works fine for me on macOS27
Well operator error. some how a group of pictures were flagged as rejected. So all is well in DXO 10 land. Donât know how to delete this post
I upgraded to macos27 on a Mac Studio M2 Ultra and when I goto export nothing happens, no export. It does not hang or get stuck PL 10 just does nothing. The Export box is grayed out and when I add other export destinations the same thing happens. All are grayed out. This has never been an issue in the past for me.
