Best workflow for DxO PureRAW plug-in, LR 14.4 for body/lens not yet available?

I’m wanting advice (as a newbie to DxO PureRAW plug-in for Lightroom 14.4 on an M4 MacBook Pro. The majority of my photos are with my Sony 16-70mm f4 with either a Sony a6700, a6600, a6500 or a6300 (the last 2 bodies I once shot with). I keep requesting profiles to be created by DxO for these. I have 3 other lenses which do have a profile from Dx0.

Before getting DxO PureRaw (latest version), I would apply LR Lens Correction to every photo I ingested. I would only apply Noise Reduction in Lightroom on final edit shots which would be above 3200 ISO or higher. (That might be for perhaps 40% Noise Reduction).

My understanding is that despite a profile not being available yet for my Sony bodies with my Sony 16-70mm f4, I could still apply it for some improvement in noise reduction anyway. But I’m guessing it’s lots better to apply that at the start of editing a photo than once I’ve applied other edits to a shot.

Should I then apply the DxO plug-in to every photo (regardless of ISO it was shot at) on ingest before I start improving any of my photos? (My understanding from a DxO tech rep is that this plug-in can improve the look of even lower ISO photos, not only high ISO photos.) Then apply Adobe Lens Correction for only those taken with my 16-70mm (but not applying that to other body/lens combinations which DxO has a profile for already)?

Help, please?

Yes, that’s correct …

For any body/lens combo for which DxO has an “Optics Module” (which contains all details needed to apply lens corrections & noise reduction), the best approach is to auto-apply corrections to ALL images.

PureRAW (or PhotoLab) will apply noise reduction in accordance with the actual needs of the image, as determined by its algorithms — So, you do not have to make this decision yourself/manually. PR/PL will not apply noise reduction where it’s not needed.

Furthermore, provided you have a capable GPU, you will achieve best results with one of the DeepPRIME NR methods.

…and if there is no module yet, just use what you have and can use … knowing that you might want to redo things, once the module is available.

Best Practice: use DPR first, before you edit anything in Lightroom.

Thanks so much for your reply!

One question: I intend to only use the plug-in for PureRAW in Lightroom, but I’ve seen a few posts saying that the standalone app is faster working than the LR plug-in? Any thoughts on that?

Thanks so much for your response!

I can’t answer that question; I use PhotoLab … but I’m sure someone else will know.
