I have my new desktop PC and so some results to share. However I did not buy the water cooled i7-7820X beast that I was pondering. When it came to it, this was a much more expensive solution that I was finding hard to justify.

20MP, 20MB, 3200 ISO image, typical corrections including Prime NR used for the comparison. Export to 100% jpg at 350dpi.

My old  i7-860 manages this in 77 seconds.

My new i7-8700 just 21 seconds.

The base clock of the 8700 is 3.2 Ghz. During a Prime export, clock speed is over 4Ghz, maybe hitting 4.14GHz. So not the 4.7GHz peak turbo clock speed it is capable of, but not running at base either.

The i7-8700 (6 core) only peaking at around 89% utilisation during a Prime export.
