Title: iPhone 8 support?
Post by: Herman on February 13, 2018, 02:49:52 pm
Question for DxO staff (Svetlana?).
Do you know if / when iPhone 8 will be supported by DxO?
(Yes, I submitted a suggestion form already  ;))

Hello  :D

Yep, we are already working on it. So keep calm and you'll get it in one or two releases.

Wow. Apple phones yes. Huawei no. What a pity.

Yep, we are already working on it.
That is what I hoped to hear  :)

Plenty of patience here, but knowing that it is going to be supported (and so I will be able to shoot raw and process images in my favorite raw converter) helps me in choosing a photography app for the device.

Thank you!

I feel your pain, having been in a similar situation with my Lumia 950. It has one of the best (if not the best) phone-cameras ever produced, but largely unsupported.......

Thank you for your understanding. Market share of Huawei is around 10% now, third to Apple and Samsung. Anyhow, seems I have to use Snapseed or something else for my smartphone RAWs.

AFAIK Snapseed is not a desktop raw converter?  ???
Anyway, what I tend to use when DOP / PhotoLab does not support a DNG (or other raw format) file is QImage.
The core of that program is a printing utility (it really shines here!) but it has some very nice raw conversion tricks as well (disclaimer: I have no business interest in that program other than being a long time user, same as for DxO,  I have been using both programs for over 10 years now  8)).

You are right. I use Snapseed direktly on the phone for a few of my RAWs. The rest will just remain JPEG. But will have a look at QImage.
Thank you for this advice!

You could also try LightZone (free & open source). Though it remains disappointing that PhotoLab still doesn't provide basic Android RAW support (http://forum.dxo.com/index.php/topic,10295.msg57715.html) when Android takes around around 85% of the global smartphone market.

When Android DNG is a generic format that can have basic support across different manufacturers then I really don't understand why this will not be supported in DxO.
Thank you for this interesting information.

Hello, I notice iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X is now supported.

How far behind is the regular iPhone 8??

Thanks so much

Still no iPhone 8 support. It’s just ridiculous at this point considering that support for iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X has been available for months! What’s the difference again between the iPhone 8 camera and the wide-angle camera of the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X? If only you could manually select those profiles for photos shot with iPhone 8, but that’d be too easy, wouldn’t it.

I’ve waited a whole year for iPhone 8 support just to be asked to shell out another 70€? I bought Photolab after my iPhone 8!

The fact that both iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus (which have the exact same wide-angle lens!) were supported in DXO Photolab 1 makes this feel like a bad joke. In its marketing for Photolab 2, DXO prominently mentions that the prices are not subscriptions, as if that were an advantage. In truth, Adobe is absolutely up front with its pricing strategy, and I’ve never felt as screwed with them as I feel now with DXO. Crucially, they get their customers coming back because they introduce new stuff, not because they withhold promised functionality.

I’ve been a customer since Optics 7, maybe now it’s finally time to switch to Adobe altogether. Way to lose regular customers, DXO, awesome job!
